I have been a fan of Wishbone Ash since their first album, and I missed them on every American tour until they did a short run to promote their amazing album BONA FIDE. I drove from Penna to the Detroit area (Ferndale, Michigan is (I guess) a suburb of Detroit) and because of mutual friends, I was able to stay at the same hotel as the band. Got to meet Andy Powell in the parking lot and was star struck, as he is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. It was really special that he is a very kind man, and very gracious with his time. Since this was the anniversary of our 9-11 attacks, it was a somber day, but the music took me away. I had no GPS and Andy offered to make sure I could get to the venue by following them through the Detroit traffic to the MAGIC BAG! The band consisted of Ray Weston on drums, Bob Skeet on bass and vocals, Ben Granfelt on guitar and vocals, and of course, the amazing Andy Powell on guitar and lead vocals. I had an 8mm tape of soundcheck (again, Andy was gracious to let me record as well) but it is missing. I recorded the show from the room above the back of the venue, and used 2 different 8mm tapes for the show. At the time, I only had access to Video CD recording and not DVD, so I preserved the two sets to VCD (not the best quality) As time went by, I lost track of the 8mm tapes until recently, only to find that after 19 years there was some tape rot. I was sick that this performance was lost, until a deep search of my thousands of recordings led me to the two VDC captures I had done. I wish I could use the original recordings for better quality sharing, but this is what has remained. AN INCREDIBLE SHOW! ENJOY!
