The song has been recorded by a number of artists, the first being Kamahl in 1982 and later by Roger Whittaker, Sheena Easton, Lou Rawls, Gladys Knight & The Pips to name a few. The Bette Midler version was from the soundtrack of the movie 'Beaches' and was released in 1989.
