Matt continues his Hall of Fame Sandwich series with a twist. Introducing the Bang Bang Shrimp Po' Boy recipe, the first sandwich recipe in this series that does not incorporate some use of a grill. Make sure to check out the full recipe on the blog here: https://bit.ly/3rUxxiM Just because you don't need a grill to make this epic sandwich doesn't mean you can't make it outside by the grill as we see Matt doing in this video. You will need a hotplate or electric burner of some sort if you choose to use the great outdoors as your kitchen. Let's get started. This sandwich takes the least amount of time to prepare out of all the Hall of Fame Sandwiches we've seen so far, but it has the most number of steps. Your first step is to add water to a pot and bring it to a boil, blanch your shrimp in the boiling water for about 2 minutes and then cold shock it in ice water. While that cools down let's focus on making the sauce. You don't want anything to distract your attention from frying the shrimp, it's a crucial operation. To make the Bang Bang sauce get out a regular sized bowl, add 3 tbsp. of Sriracha, 3 tbsp. of honey, 3 tbsp. of Hoison sauce, and finally 3 tbsp. of mayonnaise. That's it, your sauce is made. That was easy wasn't it? Now let's move on to prepping the veggies. Thinly slice a good sized beefsteak tomato, vertically slice a cucumber as seen in the video, chop some chives, and put all of this in a bowl along with some Boston lettuce. Shell the shrimp, add enough oil to a pan to fry them and get that heated up. While that is heating up get started on the tempura batter. Tempura batter is in fact a bit tricky to make on your own, it is a delicate balance of multiple dry ingredients and if any of them are off you end up with a lackluster tempura experience. Matt suggests to save yourself the headache and just buy some at the store. Whisk it with ice cold water, or better yet ice cold club soda according the provided directions until you reach the desired consistency. Add the shrimp to the batter and immediately transfer them into the oil. Be sure not to overcrowd your pan and beware of overcooking. Your shrimp is actually already cooked, it's the batter we want to crisp up. We are now ready to make this sandwich a reality. Toast some buns similar to what you see in the video, this is really personal preference but we recommend you go with a crispy bun regardless of what type you choose. Toss your shrimp in the bang bang sauce until they are evenly coated. Cut your bun open, add a little bit of extra sauce, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, shrimp, and top it with the diced chives. That is all there is to it. Another stellar Hall of Fame Sandwich has been made. If you enjoyed this Hall of Fame Sandwich recipe please take a moment to like the video and subscribe to the channel.
