Day 44 Uncle Johnny’s to Iron Mountain Gap 21mi AT Mile 364.5/2194.4 A slackpacking extravaganza. We were dropped off 21mi South of Uncle Johnny’s and then we hiked SOBO back without our packs. There were rainbows in the morning fog and sundogs at the beauty spot, we think it was Nate saying hi. The beauty spot was Nate Loftus’ favorite spot in the AT, Carly is representing @onemoredayontheat for him out here. We met Carly’s friend Greggie B with Little Sadie the Dalmatian pup for a bit and then we had a beautiful hike back. We were welcomed back with a heady ass meal from chef cowboy and sous-chef bird. I’ve never liked mushrooms, until now. 05.24.22 Day 45 Uncle Johnny’s ZERO Chef Cowboy and sous-chef strike again, my first time tasting beer can chicken and it was the bomb.com. I also became a Narragansett beer model, it’s not the first time but I’m willing to accept it now. 05.25.22 Day 46 Iron Mountain to Campsite 5.4mi AT Mile 369.4/2194.4 Storms were expected so we set up camp early and had a chill movie day. 05.26.22 Day 47 Campsite to Roan High Knob Shelter 10mi AT Mile 379/2194.4 Great day of hiking that ended at the highest shelter on the AT. 05.27.22 Day 48 Roan High Knob to Station 19E 16.3mi AT Mile 395.3/2194.4 Foggy morning in the clouds but once it cleared up a bit the views on the balds were magnificent. We finally left North Carolina for good. Did you know that the mountains appear to be blue because the trees emit isoprene to protect themselves from extreme heat? Pretty neat! We stayed at The Station on 19E for the night, they had a craft beer pub and live music. I even made friends with their neighbors turkey Howard who becomes Hank when he’s had a few too many. 05.28.22 Day 49 Mountain Harbor ZERO We took a short walk down the road and camped a night at Mountain Harbor. They are known for the best breakfast on the Appalachian trail but they aren’t the best place for hikers. The French toast was good and the couch was comfy but we felt like we weren’t free to be our hiker trash selves there. 05.29.22 Day 50 Boots Off ZERO Trail angel Cindy gave us a ride to Boots Off Hostel to celebrate Memorial Day by Watauga Lake. All the sister wives and brother husbands were together at last as one big happy tramily! 05.30.22
