Vijay Chauhan, a 35-year-old daily wage worker, lived with his wife Komal and their 8-year-old son in a cramped chawl. Their marriage, which began in 2015, had been rocky in recent years. In early 2025, Komal started an affair with Monu Sharma — a much younger neighbor and bright BSc IT student. Despite Monu’s academic success, he soon became entangled in a dangerous relationship that would cost a man his life. After Vijay discovered intimate chats and private photos on Komal’s phone, their home became a daily battlefield. But instead of walking away, Komal and Monu chose a darker path — they planned Vijay’s murder. On or around July 5 or 6, Vijay was killed — possibly drugged, then strangled. His body was wrapped in plastic and buried inside the house, in a shallow pit that Komal claimed was dug to “fix a plumbing issue.” To cover it up, they laid fresh floor tiles — and chillingly, asked Vijay’s own brother Ajay to do the job, without ever revealing what was beneath. For weeks, Vijay’s family searched for him, receiving evasive replies from Komal, who eventually disappeared as well. Suspicion grew when family members noticed new floor tiles in one room — an odd renovation considering their financial status. Finally, on July 19, the family broke the tiles and found a decomposing body. The police were called, and DNA confirmed it was Vijay. Within days, Komal and Monu were tracked down and arrested in Pune, where they were hiding. Their statements to police contradicted each other — Komal claimed she poisoned Vijay alone, while Monu said he acted alone out of sudden anger. Investigators suspect both were involved and had planned the crime together. Authorities also believe that money was a motive, as Vijay had recently received ₹6 lakh from an insurance policy — a sum Komal and Monu allegedly intended to use to start a new life. This case shook social media not just for its brutality, but because of how eerily it mirrored a film — and how ordinary people carried out something so sinister.
