B1 Version of this video: • В1 англійська на слух: Різдвяна лексика B2 Version of this video: • B2 англійська на слух: Різдво у Польщі Transcript: Hi everyone, welcome back to the channel. In today’s video you’ll practice listening, learn useful Christmas vocabulary, because today I’m walking through Warsaw Old Town in Poland, and it feels like I’ve stepped into a Christmas postcard. Don’t forget that at the end of the video you’ll find a list of useful words and phrases together with the exercises in my pinned commentary under the video. So, hop along! Let’s go! The air is cold and fresh, and the streets are full of warm, golden light. The place feels nice and calm. The string lights at the Market Square surprised me. They were above the ice skating rink and the place looked like a fairy tale. It was full of Christmas atmosphere. All around the Old Town, there are beautiful restaurants and cafés decorated for Christmas. You should go inside and have a cup of hot herbal tea. I’m passing through the Christmas market now. Look at these wooden shops with lights. They are decorated with pine branches, red ribbons, and small figures. I found one shop with gingerbread cookies in different shapes. They were hand-made and hand-colored. There were bright cartoon characters, bears, Santas, Christmas trees, deer, and snowmen. At another place there were white, red, and golden baubles and tree toppers. I even found a green glass doughnut and how about a glass hotdog or a piece of watermelon? Of course, Christmas market is a great place to buy presents for your family and friends. You can buy soaps, lavender bags, warm wool socks, scarves, blankets, and mittens. At the next place, there were wooden boxes and a lot of wooden items. You can hear quiet Christmas music in the background and people talking, laughing, and enjoying hot drinks. Christmas lights are everywhere in the Old Town. Look at this Christmas tree. It stands in the center of the square and it is full of baubles and small lights that change color every second. People walk slowly, smile, and stop to take photos. The old historic buildings look even more magical with lights around them. When I walk here I remember that Christmas is not only about lights or decorations. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and the love, hope, and peace that it brings to the world. No matter where you are, that light in the darkness is what Christmas is really about. Thanks for walking with me through Warsaw at Christmas. Write in the comments what new words you learned.
