Guntersville 8A1 → Pensacola 82J – IFR Summer Adventure Join Virgil & Maddi for an IFR cross-country across Alabama on a hot summer afternoon. After a great lunch overlooking beautiful Guntersville Lake, a friendly Uber driver dropped them back at the airport for the last leg on their weekend adventure to Knoxville, TN for Maddi's family reunion. A line of storms blocked the direct route, so Virgil requested southeast deviation — giving up some gorgeous cloud formations, rain shafts, and river views. Following the Coosa River near Gadsden all the way to Montgomery, the winding waterway guided toward familiar territory: Evergreen, Brewton, and Cantonment. Pensacola Approach set up an easy straight-in to Runway 18 at Roscoe Field (82J), complete with a view of the closed Saufley Navy airfield on final.
