If you like trees that are easy to identify, you'll LOVE tulip-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)! This very distinct hardwood tree species is abundant and common in forests of the eastern US. Also called tuliptree and yellow-poplar, this species is actually in the Magnolia Family. Tulip-poplar is one of the largest hardwood trees in eastern forests and also boasts fast growth and high timber value. It is also beloved for its attractive leaves, flowers, and form, and is an important canopy species on mesic sites.
