Riding The Storm Out 2 Samuel 12:15-25 Galatians 6:7–8 (NIV) 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Proverbs 6:32 (NIV) 32 But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself. 2 Samuel 12:15–16 Then the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s widow bore to David, so that he was very sick. David therefore inquired of God for the child; and David fasted and went and lay all night on the ground. 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. 2 Samuel 12:18 (NIV) 18 On the seventh day the child died. David’s attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, “While the child was still living, he wouldn’t listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.” 2 Samuel 12:19–20 (ESV) 19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.” 20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate. Job 1:20–21 (ESV) 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Hebrews 12:15 (NIV) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 2 Samuel 12:21–22 (NIV) 21 His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!” 22 He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.’ 2 Samuel 12:23 (NIV) 23 But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NIV) 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 2 Samuel 12:24–25 (NIV) 24 Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and made love to her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The LORD loved him; 25 and because the LORD loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah. Hebrews 12:11–15 (NIV) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13 “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. 14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Isaiah 57:15 (NIV) 15 For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. Psalm 32:2, 8, 10 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. 10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Psalm 30:5 (NIV) 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. Riding out the storm is a lonely experience. Riding out the storm is a learning experience. Riding out the storm is also a temporary experience.Riding out the Storm is a humbling experience. James 4:6, 10 (NIV) 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Romans 8:28 (NIV) 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. NUTSHELL: Whatever storm you are riding out in your life — Know that JESUS IS ENOUGH!
