Performance with the OER (Orquestra Experimental de Repertório), conducted by Leonardo Labrada, on May 18, 2025, at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. In Greek grammar, "crase" literally means the fusion or contraction of two vowels, one final and the other initial, or even the fusion of two identical vowels into one, but it can also evoke the characteristic trait of a person's personality, character, temperament. The word has its etymology in the Greek word krâsis: “action of mixing, mixture of elements that combine into a whole, alliance, temperament, combination, fusion of sounds”. Its derivative is the postpositive -“crasy” (as, for example, in “idiosyncrasy”: a behavioral characteristic peculiar to a group or a person). Based on this concept, Crase's musical writing tends towards a constant contrast in the behavior of the instrumental “masses”, alternating between the orchestral body and the intervention of soloists – some of whom are located outside the orchestra. The purpose is to interact (merge) the instrumental writing with the spectral metamorphoses that are operated either in real time (live transformations of the sounds of the clarinet and oboe soloists) or in deferred time (electroacoustic layers pre-composed in the studio and diffused by a technological apparatus consisting of an orchestra of loudspeakers distributed around the audience). From time to time, electroacoustic resonances are released that correspond to the four main harmonic aggregates of the work (harmonic Entities), making up specific trajectories in the totalizing space of the theater.
