About 1000 years old, Polpulli Perumkurissi Appan Shivalayam is situated in the middle of the scenic village of Polpully about 10 km from Palakkad, Kerala. The temple has a circular sanctum sanctorum.Lord Shiva appears here as Swayambulingam and blesses everyone. There is a beautiful water body called Perungulam around this temple.It is cooling around the temple. Elders say that this pond is located in the front of the temple to appease the Shiva Lingam which is very fiery.The most important festivals here are Shivratri, Arudra darshan and Kedar puja held in the month of Puratasi, which are special festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from these, Pradosha worship and Kumbabhishek day, Navarathri nine days Niramalai Utsavam are celebrated with great fervour. Every month on Aiyalam Nakshatra, Abhishek Aradhanas are held for the Nagas seated under the royal tree in front of the temple.Every year special pujas are held at Polpully Bhagavathy Temple and Perumkurissi Bhagavathy Temples which are functioning under Perumkurussi temple. Vishuvelai, a festival held every year in the Polpully Bhagavathy temple, is celebrated here with great fervour. This Vishu work is celebrated on the seventh day after the end of Chitra Gani i.e. on the 21st day of April.
