SOUNDBITE (English) Jacquelyn Martin, The Associated Press: ++COVERED++ “The big story this year is really Lindsey Vonn's kind of comeback kid story about, she just had the injury of her ACL and then people are really excited to see her race and what's going to happen." 4. STILLs of Associated Press photojournalist Jacquelyn Martin in place to photograph the Women's Alpine event at the Winter Olympics ++MUTE++ 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Jacquelyn Martin, The Associated Press: ++COVERED++ “I was taken to the spot by an Italian photographer working with us. It's known as the Trovati Corner for his family. And it's just a beautiful photograph that really places the viewer here in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy” 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Jacquelyn Martin, The Associated Press: ++PARTIALLY COVERED++ “Lindsey Vonn comes through, she's coming into the turn, and as she approaches the gate she clips the gate with her arm or her shoulder. And as soon as she does that, we know, the photographer and I, that this is bad. So she clips it, it totally throws her off, and she's unable to recover. And a couple of pictures later, you see her body at almost a full diagonal. It's bad, and she's not able to come back from that being put off balance when the impact from the gate happened. And at that moment I just realized she's not going to be able to back from this, and it is a bad crash. I gasped out loud. It was really scary and really sad to see this be the end of this current Olympic journey.” 7. Bukaty/ID: 26039399011915) STORYLINE: Associated Press photographer Jacquelyn Martin witnessed U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn's crash during her fifth Olympic Games. Vonn 's defiant bid to win the Winter Olympic downhill at the age of 41, on a rebuilt right knee and a badly injured left knee, ended Sunday in a frightening crash that left her with a broken leg and saw her taken to safety by a rescue helicopter for the second time in nine days. Martin has been based in Washington since 2006 and covers politics at the White House and Congress. A skier since she was 3-years-old, she is covering the Women’s Alpine at her first Winter Olympics. Martin said the crash was "shocking to witness". The AP team had scouted a position that was a good location for a scenic image showing the racers among the gorgeous Dolomites. It was mainly planned as a pretty image to add to the action images being taken by other colleagues downhill. She was strapped to a gurney and flown away.
