ABS is a material used in 3D printing for applications where you need a high strength, easy-to-print material. *** TRANSCRIPT Welcome to the LulzBot filament profile series! In these videos we are showcasing properties and applications for the many materials you can print with on a LulzBot 3D printer. The filament highlighted in this video is called ABS, a thermoplastic formally known as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. Before getting started, , we strongly recommend taking steps to ensure your ABS object sticks to the print bed before turning the printer on to heat the bed. One way to do this is by using cloth to apply an acetone and ABS mixed solution onto the PET tape surface on the bed. Another way is by using a glue stick, applied either onto the PET tape surface or directly to the glass bed. For optimum ABS print quality, we recommend a nozzle temperature of 230 degrees Celsius, and a bed temperature of 85 degrees Celsius. Your LulzBot printer is programmed to prepare your ABS print with a few simple selections on the LCD panel. You can also do this manually on your computer. ABS is one of the most commonly used 3D printing filaments. This material is known for its strength and bed-adhesion properties. With these properties in mind, ABS is ideal for either prototyping or creating functional end-use products. Finished objects can also be treated with acetone for a glossy veneer. Today we are printing a custom Go Pro mount handle that will be strong enough to withstand the weight of a Go Pro camera and the wear and tear of adventures over time.
