The Life of the Late David Maina BIRTH AND EARLY LIFE The late David Maina was born on October 8, 1959, in Mutuini, Dagoretti South, Nairobi County. His arrival brought joy to his family, and he grew up at a time when Kenya was experiencing the hope and energy of independence. David’s childhood was shaped by the strong values of faith, discipline, and community. He became one of the founding youth members of Regina Caeli Catholic Church in Karen, where his faith and leadership spirit began to flourish. David also grew under the mentorship of Major Sprott, a British officer who saw great potential in him. With Major Sprott’s encouragement, David developed a keen interest in education, particularly in the fields of accounting and management—interests that would later define his career path. EDUCATION His academic journey began at St. Mary’s Karen Primary School in 1965, where he displayed brilliance in class and a natural curiosity about the world around him. In 1978, he graduated from Eastleigh High School, a milestone that opened doors for higher learning. Determined to pursue his passion, he enrolled at Graffins College to study accounting, equipping himself with skills that made him both sharp and dependable in his profession. CAREER David’s professional journey started in 1982 when he joined Murphy Chemicals as an accountant. His dedication, integrity, and ability to work with people soon set him apart. Over the years, he worked with several respected organizations including Farmchem, Agip Oil Company, Spannerlight (now Shell Kabuagi), Kenray Tours, and Horseman Hotel and Restaurant. In every workplace, David was known for his calm demeanor, problem-solving skills, and unwavering honesty. After an accomplished career, David retired in 2007. Retirement for him was not an end but a new chapter—one filled with family time, farming, and nurturing his deep love for the environment. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY In 1987, David found his lifelong companion, Naomi Wanjiku. Their union was built on love, respect, and shared values, and together they raised a beautiful family. They were blessed with nine children: Nickson, Daniel, James, Alex, George, Susan, the late Pauline, Collins, and Askah. To David, family was everything. He was a present father, a supportive husband, and later, a joyful grandfather to eight grandchildren who brought light to his golden years. His home was a place of warmth, laughter, and wisdom. SICKNESS AND DEMISE David enjoyed robust health for most of his life, but in August he was diagnosed with H-Pylori after experiencing severe acidity. Though he responded well to treatment initially, a sudden fall worsened his condition. On September 27, at the age of 66, he peacefully departed this life shortly after arriving at St. Catherine Mission Hospital Ichuni for treatment. Legacy David Maina lived a life worth celebrating. He was humble, God-fearing, hardworking, and a man of integrity. He deeply cared for nature, community, and above all, his family. His kindness touched many lives, and his guidance will continue to inspire generations to come. Though he has departed, his story is one of triumph, love, and impact. David’s legacy is not only in the years he lived but in the lives he shaped. May his memory be forever cherished, and may we celebrate his life with joy and gratitude.
