Monkey Park Tenerife

The Monkey Park is situated in Los Cristianos in Tenerife and is a great day out for people of any age. The park is a breeding centre for endangered animals found in the South of Tenerife. Opened in 1991 as a leisure park, it specializes in primates kept in conditions as close to their natural habitat as possible. It is also very reasonably priced which is great if you are in a large group or have several children. On entry to the park you can buy nuts to feed to the animals. It's not a large park and consists mainly of lemurs, monkeys, tortoises, racoons, guinea pigs, parrots and lizards. Some of the smaller animals are not caged and it's great fun to feed them. Some of the small lemurs are happy to sit on your shoulder and will eat from your hand. The larger apes and reptiles are kept in cages. Although I'm not a fan of keeping animals in cages, here it's necessary to ensure their survival and they are also very well cared for in this environment. The Monkey Park opening times are 09:30 until 17:00 and its best if you get there early when the animals are most active. In the summer months it can get very warm in the afternoon. The park also has toilet facilities and a small seating area where you can relax with refreshment from one of the vending machines.
