Role of Rectopexy in treating Rectal Prolapse - Dr. Rajasekhar M R | Doctors' Circle

Rectal Prolapse is coming out the rectum through the anal canal. It is called as Rectal Prolapse. There are different stages of Rectal Prolapse. If there is a mild prolapse, we do procedures from below only, anal region only. If it is a big prolapse as what we call a prosidentia, we can do it from below or you have to open the abdomen, pull up and fix it so that it will not slip out. So fix it to the sacral bone. So that is called as Rectopexy. So there are different varieties of fixing it and from below also there are different varieties of fixing it. From below also there are methods to fix the rectum. Some of them are excisional procedures, where we remove extra large intestine especially sigmoid colon if it is too big and we can plicate the mucosa if it is only mucosal prolapsed. If it is a moderate prolapse, we will be using Rectopexy.
