The Ford Sierra XR4i was released in 1983 by Matchbox at MB120 so it likely released a short time after this. Interestingly though, MC Toy opted to put 'Merkur XR4Ti' tampos over this example. Perhaps this was to aid marketability in North America. The Merkur brand was launched by Ford in 1983 as an attempt to tap into the lucrative European executive market. Instead of creating a brand new model, the XR4i was shipped over from the German production line and fitted with a smaller but turbocharged Pinto engine (hence the T in the name). Merkyr is German for Mercury, through whose dealers the XR4Ti was sold. I opt to customise my poorly example by painting it black, attempting to hide the big chunky black plastic bumpers the XR4 came equipped with.
