How to kick turn for beginners starts with learning your up downs stationary. You can use a piece of carpet or grass. Get your back foot on the tail of the skateboard where you can feel the tail start going up. Than just push down on your back foot and pick your front foot up by lifting your knee up when you press your back foot down and then just let the board go back down. You did your first stationary up down. Then you want to practice the up downs while you’re moving and keep your momentum going forward. Always practice backside kick turns stationary first. For backside kick turns start with having your weight on the toe side. Make sure your back foot is on the tail and you have a good wide stance. And then as you push on the tail and lift your front foot up use your arm and drop and aim your front shoulder where you are going and swing around the bend of the turn following the forward momentum of the skateboards nose. For the frontside kick turn it’s going to be a little tricky. You have to force yourself to practice these especially in the beginning of your skate career. The key is to drop your front shoulder and have weight on your back foot on the heel in the pocket of the tail. Then look behind your front shoulder and swing your arm behind it as you push down with your back foot on the tail with your heel. You’re going to feel like you’re blind because you are lol. You don’t have eyes in the back of your head so you have to develop the trust of swinging your momentum behind that front shoulder. Learning frontside kickturns on flat ground stationary and then moving is crucial in being able to learn them in the futur much easier on flat banks and quaterpipes.
