PCI was one of the first in the state of Iowa to offer Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) a gold-standard procedure that ends stroke risk. While any repair of the carotid artery carries some risk of causing a stroke because of the repair itself, TCAR was designed to help minimize that risk by keeping potential stroke causing fragments away from the brain. This minimally-invasive procedure involves direct access to the carotid artery, but through a much smaller incision at the neckline just above the clavicle instead of a longer incision on the neck. Patients usually only have to stay one night in the hospital and recover much more quickly with less pain. PCI has already been awarded a Center of Excellence designation for the TCAR procedure.
