Dom Ore Loves To Boogie (006) Dom Ore brings the Soul for episode six. This mix acts as a tribute to the many tiny labels and one-record artists - whose contribution to the genre of Soul & Funk is enormous despite their size and history. In the wake of Motown’s success in the late 60s and early 70s, a wave of independent Soul labels and artists emerged. Among them were countless small, often short-lived labels whose impact on soul and funk far outweighed their size or lifespan. Here is just a taste of that time and some of those amazing records. Dom Ore has carved out a significant niche in London's music scene, not only as a highly regarded DJ but also as a label founder with a deep passion for reissuing classic soul, jazz, and disco. Starting his career at Acid Jazz Records, The Miles Away boss gained valuable experience working alongside notable artists such as Leroy Hutson, The Brand New Heavies, and Matt Berry. His time at Acid Jazz allowed him to develop an encyclopaedic knowledge of music, particularly across the soulful, jazzy, and funky spectrums. Beyond the label, Dom’s influence extends through his radio presence, regularly hosting a show on Soho Radio and contributing DJ mixes for BBC 6 Music's Huey Morgan and Craig Charles. He's a mainstay on the London and UK DJ circuit, with performances at iconic venues and festivals including Glastonbury, The Pickle Factory, Spiritland, and Bristol's Crofters Rights. In 2019, Dom took a bold step in founding Miles Away Records, dedicated to reissuing rare and under appreciated gems on vinyl. The label has thrived, with releases like Patience by Rokk and It’s Time For A Change by Lamont Butler receiving critical acclaim from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson and Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. The label’s 2024 compilation, Miles Away: One, further solidified its reputation, showcasing soulful treasures that have resonated with both collectors and new listeners. Dom's ongoing collaborations with legendary imprints such as Brunswick, Easy Street, and Sleeping Bag Records have expanded his influence, helping to breathe new life into classic tracks and artists for new generations. His relentless work ethic and passion for music have made him one a respected figure in the industry. If you’re into discovering soulful classics and experiencing expertly curated DJ sets, Dom Ore is definitely someone to keep an eye (and ear) on. ---------------------------------------------------- We love creating these videos for you, bringing new musical discoveries to your ears from special guests and our Alhara Radio shows with Delonte Rivers.
