If you’ve ever wondered what a daruma doll is and how to use it to set goals, Katie Anderson answers your questions! #darumadoll #japaneseculture I’m Katie Anderson and first discovered Daruma dolls when I lived in Japan in 2015. I now have a collection of 100s of dolls and give them away as gifts to clients, colleagues and friends. Daruma dolls are weighted at the bottom and right themselves when knocked over. They represent the Japanese proverb “fall down seven times, get up eight.” When you have a goal, you fill in the doll’s left eye. It serves as a visual reminder of your goal and a reminder that even if you inevitably experiences setbacks and challenges, to keep getting up and moving forward to achieve your goal. When you doc you can fill in your doll’s right eye. In Japan, people and companies bring completed darumas to temples, where they are burned in a ceremonial bonfire in the new year. Learn more about Daruma dolls, Japanese business and culture, and more with other videos here.
