"When I Get It Right" - Choreography by Sebastian Garcia

*turn up brightness for best viewing experience* This piece highlights the struggles among queer people to find & authentically experience love/intimacy, as well as the struggle to allow this love/intimacy into their own lives. Through movement, I aimed to explore how these struggles can be influenced by issues such as toxic/patriarchal masculinity, internalized homophobia, dissociation and heteronormativity. As soon as I heard this song for the first time, I knew I had to create something to it; “Catching up” on love as a queer person is an idea I feel like I’m still unpacking for myself to this day. This was my first time openly creating work through my queer lens, and I’m thankful for the support I’ve received to move forward unapologetically with this process.
