New information is emerging in the case of a woman accused of posing as a nurse and stealing sedatives from local hospital patients. Court records show Marissa Jean Denton had been practicing in Tennessee without ever holding a state nursing license. Her nursing privileges have since been revoked or suspended in multiple states. Charges against Denton were bound over to a Davidson County grand jury this week. According to a motion filed by the District Attorney’s Office, Denton got into Saint Thomas Midtown last Wednesday, posing as a nurse in scrubs, and stole the sedative propofol from a patient’s IV. Days later, staff reported a full bag of propofol missing. This is not the first time Denton has faced accusations. Records from the Tennessee Board of Nursing show that while working for SunCrest Home Health in Clarksville in 2023, she was caught on surveillance taking a patient’s wife’s engagement ring. Denton admitted to the theft, returned the ring, and was arrested, but the charge was later dismissed and expunged. In November 2024, the Tennessee Board revoked her multistate privilege tied to her Maryland license. The following month, Denton was found unresponsive in a bathroom at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, with syringes nearby. Investigators said she admitted to diverting propofol and Dilaudid, and the Kentucky Board of Nursing suspended her ability to practice there. Denton’s bond is set at $75,000, but the District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion asking the court to raise it. As for the Vanderbilt Medical Center incident where she is accused of stealing the sedative from another patient last week, charges are expected to be filed, according to Metro Police.
