A documentary about the New Reich Chancellery building, erected at the order of Adolf Hitler to replace the much smaller old Reich Chancellery building. The building was erected in just under a year and was completed in 17 Jul 1939. Planned in 1936, design included a bunker below the building as Hitler was preparing for war. This is the infamous bunker that Hitler spent his last days in during the war. The building was heavily damaged during the battle of Berlin. Hitler had envisioned turning Berlin into a super city named Germania with the help of his architect Albert Speer. The grandiose design of the chancellery was custom of the theme of the super city, which made little progress overall due to resources being needed for the war effort. After the war, the occupying Russians controlling East Berlin tore down the remainder of the building and it later became part of the death strip of the Berlin Wall.
