In Prague, the swollen Vitava river has burst its banks and submerged parts of the city. A state of emergency has been declared. This is the worst flooding in more than a decade. More than 7,000 people have been evacuated from their homes across the Czech Republic. Animals from Prague zoo are among the evacuees. Many have been moved to higher ground. There are fears the enclosures may be damaged or even destroyed. The town of Passau in southeast Germany is vulnerable because it is at the confluence of three rivers. Levels here are at their highest for 70 years and could rise further. Floodwater has submerged a section of motorway linking the German city of Munich with the Austrian city of Salzburg. A state of emergency has been declared for the entire state of Bavaria. Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to visit the region on Tuesday.
