Step 1: Begin your Methodology section by stating your research paper’s problem or the question you investigated. This could be a re-statement of your thesis. You can also explain why you chose your specific methods. The “why” often is a citation of another study that has used the same or similar methodology, or a citation of a study that recommended your chosen methodology. Step 2: Share the full details of your data collection methods. This is where you clearly describe the many aspects of your research study. If you did a survey, you will need to describe how you designed the questionnaire and the specifics of your questions or prompts. For experiments, you will need to discuss how you manipulated different variables and controlled for outside influences. Remember to include your sampling methods, sample size, and response rate. Step 3: If you have quantitative results, discuss how you prepared the data and how you analyzed it. What software did you use? And which tests did you use? For qualitative studies, discuss your content, themes, or discourse analysis. Step 4: Evaluate and justify your methodology. Why did you choose the methods you did, and why other methods were not suitable, and justify how your approach contributes to new knowledge.
