The De Vere Latimer Estate sits on the site of a stately home, built in 1838, where this extraordinary operation took place. Nazi captives were lulled into a false sense of security by an elaborate theatrical performance, complete with fake aristocrats, deliberately cack-handed interrogations and lots of alcohol.
