Snow Trails with Elroy real snowmobile adventures through West Yellowstone, Montana and Island Park, Idaho. For over 30 years, Elroy has been riding some of the best groomed snowmobile trails in the world, averaging over 150 miles a day and leading the crew to incredible views, wildlife, and hidden food stops tucked deep in the mountains. This piece highlights the difference between West Yellowstone (the town) where you can ride freely on your own sled, and Yellowstone National Park, where snowmobile access is limited to guided tours on 4-strokes or a lucky lottery draw each year. Along the journey we’ve seen buffalo, elk, deer, wolves, trout, moose (including one sloppy salad-eating mom), and even sled dog teams training for January races. We’ve visited iconic locations like Mesa Falls, Big Springs, Lionshead, Two Tops, South Plateau, Warm River, Horse Butte, and the Madison Arm. Food stops along the trail included: Meadow Creek Lodge (only accessible by snowmobile) Lakeside Lodge Restaurant & Bar Ponds Restaurant Happy Hour Bar & Grill Connie’s Restaurant Lodge Pole Bar & Grill Three Bears Wild West Pizzeria Bullwinkle’s Italian Steakhouse (with a working model train!) Elk Creek Ranch Timberline Golf — “Come for the food, stay for the conversation” And of course… no snowmobile trip is complete without someone getting stuck. Poor Mike insists he’d never get stuck if we didn’t stop on a hill — so it’s definitely not his fault he sunk his sled to the eyeballs. 😂 Locations Featured: West Yellowstone, MT Island Park, ID 83420
