Jonathan Trent, MD, PhD, University of Miami, Miami, FL, discusses findings from a multi-omics study of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a real-world patient cohort. NF1 and NTRK3 mutations were identified in patients with wild-type GIST. However, KIT/PDGFRA mutations such as KIT exon 11 mutations were associated with poorer outcomes. These findings suggest that immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors may be efficacious in these patients.
