Posted on my school account "Clarkson's Site" as well. The focus here is on many important artists and songs from Scott Joplin to early Motown. Not all are American born, but they all had a profound affect on music in America. This selection is not comprehensive nor in chronological order. I put it together based on musical flow. Dates are approximate esp. for groups, as many broke up and then later got back together. Remember that group dates are based on when the group is active and does not have anything to do with birth/death dates of members. Many groups have had multiple members come and go over the years. Genre headings are loose and we know we can define artists under many different categories. I tried to keep it simple for younger audiences and color-coded the slides and posters for kids to see and hear similar sounds. This video is catered to be family friendly and for educators to use, so some pretty important and famous songs or videos are intentionally avoided. Hopefully this collection will be quite nostalgic and fun for most, especially for the Baby Boomer crowd. Regrettably, there just wasn't room for more. There will be interactive slides that have rhythm play-alongs made by other people on youtube that I will post a link to in the description when finished. In addition some (like James Brown, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner etc) were also quite famous in the 1970s-80s, so you will find them in my part two video since I had left them out of this one. I purposefully did not cancel artists in this specific video based on any controversies, allegations, or arrest records, -even ones I personally feel strongly about. I chose to make this particular video about the music only. I will also be making a playlist so you can find the full-length versions of many of these videos and songs in this slideshow. Enjoy! Post in your comments who your favorite artist was mentioned in this video. Check out my PART TWO video as well!
