Carolyn Chen http://www.asianamerican.northwestern..., associate professor of sociology at Northwestern University, discusses the religious patterns of the Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, and Hindu Asian-American second generation. She finds that, in general, assimilation has a secularizing effect. However, secularization is determined by the strength of racial barriers and religious boundaries a group faces. Muslims and evangelical Protestants stand out as exceptionally religious. This presentation was part of the RICSRE Faculty Seminar Series which features speakers from a wide variety of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, education, law, business, and medicine throughout the academic year. The event took place on June 5, 2014 at Margaret Jacks Hall, Stanford University. For more information, visit http://ccsre.stanford.edu.
