The Valmiki Tiger Reserve in the West Champaran district of Bihar is home to lush forests, vital river systems, and vibrant communities. It is also a critical stronghold for biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services. Coexistence in the region is being strengthened, thanks to on-ground efforts that support conservation and promote sustainable livelihoods and practices. Working alongside the Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department, Government of Bihar, and local communities, WWF-India has focused on strengthening habitat management, promoting sustainable resource use, and building resilience so that forests, wildlife, and the people who depend on them thrive.
