Southeast Asia was shaken by a powerful earthquake with its epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar. Even though it was over 1,000 kilometers away, Bangkok experienced some of the most unsettling tremors it’s felt in decades. There was real panic, and some damage too. I was in the Thai capital when it hit—my first earthquake experience, and honestly, it’s not something I’d want to relive anytime soon. With 30 aftershocks reported, I personally felt three. What really stood out to me, though, was how much media attention Bangkok seemed to get compared to Myanmar, which took the brunt of the quake. Now, a day later, with the city calm and trains back on track, I decided to take a walk and see how things are holding up.
