Reverse Torque Explantation Implant Removal of a Lower Dental Implant

This patient presented with 3 year history of pain around his dental implant. Although the X-ray presentation appeared for the most part normal (aside from thin bone on outer aspect on cone beam CT scan), there was marked tenderness over the implant site. This may have been either peri-implant mucositis or early peri-implantitis. Although conservative therapy was recommended, patient sought to to have it removed. The lower jaw bone is considerably more dense and explantation can be more difficult often requiring complete or partial osteotomy before reverse torque. In this video, we demonstrate that with the right explantation device, the technique can prove to be effective in implant removal even in type D1 bone.
