We were delighted to host Dr. Kee Park of Harvard Medical School and Dr. Fred Boop of the University of Tennessee for our first presentation on the field of Global Neurosurgery. This session focused on the practice of neurosurgery across different continents, the value of collaboration and teamwork with international colleagues, and the engagement of surgeons with international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN). About the Speaker: Dr. Park is a consultant for the World Health Organization and serves on the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Surgical Care and Anesthesia. In this capacity, he advocates for and assists in the development of national surgical plans by the Member States. He is also the Editor in Chief of The Journal of Global Neurosurgery. He is the Director of Policy and Advocacy, Program in Global Surgery and Social Change. Dr. Park is a consultant for the World Health Organization and serves on the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Surgical Care and Anesthesia. In this capacity, he advocates for and assists in the development of national surgical plans by the Member States. Dr. Boop is the president of the 48th annual meeting of the ISPN and past president of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). He has served Semmes-Murphey Clinic as a member of the Board of Directors, as Chief of the pediatric neurosurgery division, and as pediatric neurosurgery fellowship director. He has held the JT Robertson endowed chair from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Department of Neurosurgery residency training program and the St. Jude endowed chair in pediatric neurosurgery where he is currently a member of the St. Jude Global Program. He is currently Emeritus Chair at UTHSC.
