The event was held on Wednesday, October 24th at the El Museo Del Barrio and showcased a phenomenal line up of some of New York City's most esteemed dance companies including Baila Society, Ballet Hispanico BHdos, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Djoniba Dance Company, Billy Fajardo & Katie Marlow, Unified Dance Studio, Nelida Tirado, Ron Renaissance and more. "Bailando Por Una Causa 2012 was everything we could have imagined and more," says Joseph Rivera, Founder of Bailando Por Una Causa. "This year's show was particularly satisfying because of the level of talent on the stage. We were blessed to host a number of truly talented and professional dance companies that left the crowd inspired and energized. Each year we find a way to raise the bar which is why so many of our attendees come back. Dancers were amazing and the crowd of over 500 people was electric. I still can't get over how much energy there was en El Teatro. Thank you to everyone who came and who made it possible!" 100% of all proceeds from the event benefited the Latino Commission on AIDS. As the fastest growing group in New York City and the United States, increased efforts are crucial in order to improve the health and wellness of Latinos and of all communities. In New York City alone, over 36,000 Latinos live with HIV/AIDS. Early sexual activity is also a risk factor for contracting HIV/AIDS, and among sexually active students, Hispanics were the least likely to report using a condom. "Bailando Por Una Causa represents a sign of hope, energy, support and passion to continue our prevention and education of HIV/AIDS in our communities, says Guillermo Chacon, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. "We are grateful to all of the dancers and staff who brought this exquisite night together and to Baila Society, for leading the fight." Education, prevention and awareness are imperative in the fight against HIV/AIDS. ----------------- Latino Commision on AIDS http://www.latinoaids.org
