His invention was a set of self-aware nanochips that he would implant in our favorite blue hedgehog to control him, practically turning him into his own metallic assassin, however said nanochips would consume Sonic's body from the inside, leaving nothing but his dead and rotting fur (and incidentally giving them total control of what remains of his body). It'll be up to you to protect Tails, KTE and Robotnik (and maybe the Time Stones too) from the rusty clutches of HEX.
