Guinness World Record Attempt - Largest Cup Of Tea

Gekko Systems (http://gekkos.com) loves a challenge. As part of its 20th Anniversary celebrations over two days in June, the innovative company has sights on becoming the Guinness World Records™ title holder for the largest cup of tea! Using advanced creative and technical skills, the team needed to design a ‘cup’ big enough to contain enough tea to beat the previous record of 4,000 litres (currently held by GlaxoSmithKline). The water needs to reach a temperature of 80oC and then rest for at least 5 minutes without dropping below 75C. Never one to shy away from a challenge, the Gekko Team has built a cup capable of holding 7,000 litres. The cup is constructed from stainless steel and will use a 150 kW water heater element - 60 times more powerful than a standard home hot water heater. To reach this temperature, the water will be heated for six hours and once it reaches 80oC, 52 kilos of Nerada loose tea leaves will be added into the giant ‘cup’.
