The unboxing reveals several German M35 and M40 helmets, but as we carefully inspect them, questions about authenticity quickly surface. The liners, decals, and overall condition of these German helmets raise red flags, and what appears to be rare WWII collectibles turns out to be a valuable lesson in spotting fakes. Collectors of WWII German helmets know the importance of understanding details like liners, national shields, decals, and chemical aging, and this video shows exactly why buying from trusted dealers is so critical. The first German helmet examined looked convincing at first glance, but the liner was completely wrong, the decals seemed off, and the national shield resembled a color photocopy instead of a wartime original. The second helmet showed the exact same problems, with the same Norwegian liner and artificially aged decals, suggesting they all came from the same questionable source. By the third helmet, it became clear these pieces had been tampered with and chemically aged to look authentic. Instead of being battlefield relics, they were manipulated helmets likely sold as originals to an unsuspecting buyer. Discussing value, we estimate these reproduction-modified German helmets are worth only a few hundred dollars at most, suitable for reenactors, movie props, or collectors who cannot afford genuine WWII helmets. Authentic German helmets, especially untouched examples, command much higher prices, but only when they retain correct liners, decals, and factory-applied finishes. This video highlights how dangerous it can be to buy helmets without doing proper research, and how essential it is to buy from reputable dealers who offer return policies. Moving from WWII helmets to WWI collectibles, we also showcase a small collection of German Pickelhaube helmets, also known as spiked helmets. These include infantry helmets, cavalry helmets, and an artillery helmet, each with unique features. Collectors quickly learn the difference between other ranks helmets and officer helmets, including the use of cockades, leather chinstraps, silk liners, and maker marks. Cavalry helmets are larger with distinctive eagles and cockades, while artillery helmets are marked by their ball tops instead of spikes. Authentic examples often retain their unit markings and period-appropriate liners, although many helmets show natural wear from age and service. One standout in the collection is a Prussian spiked helmet with full markings to the 8th Train Battalion, still with its original cockades and leather chinstrap intact. Officers’ helmets differ with star brads and taller spikes, and in some cases include carry tins for storage and protection. Another example includes a Waterloo band, which denotes historical battle honors and significantly increases collector value. But just as with WWII German helmets, fakes exist in the world of Pickelhaube helmets. We showcase a helmet purchased from a well-known dealer that turned out to be a reproduction. The crown was incorrect, the liner was replaced, the cockades were wrong, and the plate had been altered. Although it was artificially aged, close inspection revealed it was not original. This helmet remains in the collection as an educational tool to help other collectors avoid similar mistakes. #GermanHelmets #WW2Helmets #M35Helmet #M40Helmet #LuftwaffeHelmet #Militaria #HelmetCollecting #WW1Helmets #Pickelhaube #SpikedHelmet #PrussianHelmet #CavalryHelmet #ArtilleryHelmet #MilitaryAntiques #MilitariaCollector #HelmetCollection #FakeGermanHelmet #OriginalGermanHelmet #HelmetUnboxing #MilitaryHistory #AntiqueHelmets #WWIICollectibles #WWICollectibles #GermanMilitaria #CollectorTips #HelmetRestoration #AuthenticMilitaria #HistoryCollector 🪖🇩🇪📦
