The start of the Iberian Trail Expedition: A world-first attempt to circumnavigate the entire Iberian Peninsula without touching pavement, using only off-road tracks and unpaved routes. Let’s see if we can make it. Right out of the gate, we're deep into it with an extreme off-road recovery! I’m stuck alone on a wind-blasted mountainside, buried up to my axles in deep mud, and dangerously close to a rollover. This is not how I expected my 7,000-mile off-road expedition across Spain and Portugal to go… and things are only getting worse. Within minutes of trying to recover my DIY Land Cruiser camper, I found myself sinking deeper, with the muddy embankment giving way beneath me. The brutal crosswinds were so strong, they were actually pushing my 3-ton vehicle downhill. With no winch points, no support, and no way to reverse, I was in real trouble. 🌍 How Did I End Up Here? I’m on Day 2 of the Iberian Trail Expedition, a world-first attempt to circumnavigate the Iberian Peninsula off-road using only 4x4 trails. This solo overland adventure will take me through some of the most remote and unforgiving terrain in Europe, tackling: ✅ Extreme 4x4 trails – deep mud, mountain passes, & river crossings ✅ Wild camping in remote landscapes – completely off-grid ✅ DIY vehicle repairs & self-reliant overlanding ✅ Overland travel navigation using GPX routes & satellite maps ✅ Extreme terrain from high altitude mountains to deserts, forests, and great plains ✅ Abandoned buildings: Tons of ghost towns to explore in the most remote parts of Europe! But now, instead of making progress westward, I’m fighting for every inch just to get my Land Cruiser back on solid ground. 🛠 The Challenge: Can I Recover from This? With no trees to winch off and the Land Cruiser at risk of rolling, I had to get creative. 💡 My only option? Using my spare tire as a ground anchor. 💀 My biggest fear?
