Joki Suso is a Mandinka jali, or "griot", from the Basse region of The Gambia. He plays the konting, a 5 string plucked lute, which is widespread in West Africa and goes by many names, including ngoni, koni, xalam, gambare and hoddu. It has similarities with the Moroccan guimbri, too, and is widely held to be the ancestor of the banjo. A previous version of "Bowdi" is available on YouTube    • Joki Suso - Bowdi  .
