MONSTER 1972 YANKO SUPER VEGA • The SHOCKING TRUTH behind 1972 CHEVROLET VEGA NASCAR Dominance Oct. 1964, Ford responded to the Nascar Hemi the only way Henry Ford II knew how, build a better engine. By late Dec. the Cammer was already on the dyno, early enuf to make the cover of Hot Rod magazines Jan. 1965 issue. Yet, with the other teams whining about the Hemi, Nascar was forced to ban the Hemi and rejected Ford's homologation plans. In a strange twist, Ford won the 1965 Nascar championship with Ned Garrett driving a 427 side oiler powered Galaxie 500, the same engine that propelled Fords Thunderbolt to the 1964 NHRA Super Stock title. Hemi's Dominance: The 426 Hemi, with its true dome hemispherical combustion chamber design, and extremely strong bottom end became the engine of choice in drag racing's fastest classes due to its strong power and ability to withstand the extreme demands of drag racing. Cammer's Shortcomings: The Ford 427 SOHC "Cammer" was a response to the Hemi's dominance, but it suffered from design flaws, including a weak bottom end, oiling problems, and timing issues, which made it unreliable. NHRA's Role: The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) played a significant role in the Hemi's continued use. While the Cammer was a powerful engine, the NHRA's rules favored the pushrod design of the Hemi, and the Cammer's overhead cam design was deemed too different. Cammer's Short Racing Career: The Cammer's short four-year drag-racing career was plagued by bottom-end issues, including oiling problems and the need to replace mains and rods after every pass. They blew up after every run would break ! Weak Ford bottom end garbage! I dare anyone to put their money 💰 where there mouth is about these known facts! The oiling system was garbage in these motors! @hdvictoryford5329 Ohio Geroge was a Chevy racer. When he saw the Cammer he knew it was a winner. When he started to campaign his Willy's Ford Cammer his car was running a full second quicker that all the Hemi's in the field. His first season he won 11 races and lost 1 due to a wheelie bar breaking. When he took his Cammer to Indy he told me he had to pedal every round, because the engine was so dominant. The other guys in the gasser class saw what was happening. So they got a petition started to ban the Cammer. All the hemi and Chevy signed the petition. Ohio George told me he left his quicker engine at home, yes it was a Ford another Ford hemi the BOSS. So when you say what engine was quicker and faster. 1loss in the entire season, the Cammer. OG said he launched the car at 9K and shifted at 9.5K. He also said the Cammer was extremely durable.
