Over the last five episodes, we showed you the problem. Amazon Sidewalk, WiFi motion sensing, smart TV surveillance, phone tracking, data brokers — the whole ecosystem. Now we show you what you can actually do about it. Most of these steps take less than ten minutes. In this episode of the Surveillance Aware Network (SAN) series: QUICK WINS (Under 10 Minutes): • Reset or delete your Mobile Advertising ID (Android & iOS steps included) • Audit every app's location permissions — change "Always" to "While Using" or "Never" • Disable ACR on Samsung, LG, Vizio, Roku, and Fire TV (specific menu paths provided) • Opt out of Amazon Sidewalk in the Alexa app MODERATE EFFORT: • Buy your own router — eliminate ISP WiFi motion sensing entirely • Delete dormant apps — every unused app is a surveillance vector • Use a VPN to prevent IP-to-household matching • Network segmentation — isolate IoT devices from personal devices ADVANCED: • DNS-level ad blocking with Pi-hole or AdGuard • Disable Bluetooth before entering retail stores • For sensitive locations, leave your phone in the car The goal isn't perfection — it's reducing your attack surface and making yourself a harder target.
