👋 Today let's take a look at the latest generation 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata alongside the Toyota GR Supra! If you are looking for a nice high end sportscar like a Toyota Supra, but really aren't looking to spend $60,000, and want a trop top experience. Is the Mazda Miata the baby version of a Supra if you want an affordable convertible? The Toyota GR86 is the true little brother to the Supra and has a lot of the same fun for half the price. The BMW Z4 would realistically be the true big boy version of the Miata. Z4 and Supra are the same car underneath. But seems like enthusiasts really like the Supra and lot of people love the Miata as well and like it for an affordable alternative to the Supra. This 2024 Miata Grand Touring packs the Skyactiv 2.0L inline 4 cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 151 torque. MSRP is right at $40,000. You can get more of a base model Miata for closer to $30k which is half price compared to a Supra. Toyota Supra packs a turbo 3.0L inline 6 cylinder with 382 horsepower and 368 torque. So the Supra is certainly much faster. However the Miata weighs around 2,500 pounds while the Supra is closer to 3,400 pounds. Both cars come in a 6 speed manual with rear wheel drive and automatics are available. You can tell the Supra is a more premium car. Rides very solid and quiet. Comfortable interior with good room and creature comforts. Miata is a bit cheaper feeling, however still has a nicely appointed interior with similar materials. The Miata is a bit louder in the cabin and you can even tell with the audio. My voice sounds more clear in the Supra while the Miata causes my voice to echo a bit. Miata is a bit cramped and will definitely be a bit small for some buyers. Driving the Miata is a lot of fun though. Handles great in the turns and is just full of smiles, especially when you drop the top! Supra is a beast of a sports car and really can't complain about anything. So if you want a Supra but spending $60,000 is a bit out of budget and you want the cheaper alternative with a drop top, the Mazda Miata is a great choice!
