If you're in the market to purchase a snowblower its important to think about several factors. First and foremost have an understanding of the term "stages". This term references how the snow exits the machine and how many parts it takes to throw the snow out the shoot. In a single stage machine there is an auger that pushes the snow out the shoot. In a 2 stage machine there is an auger and also a high speed impeller that shoots the snow out of the machine. The 3 stage machine is similar to the 2 stage machine but it has an added accelerator that helps break down the material before pushing it to the high speed impeller. The average house that has a drive space of 2 to 4 cars doesn't need higher than a single stage unless you prefer to shoot the snow over the neighboring property. Small driveways for townhomes and condos may do best with a power shovel due to its easy of use. The next thing to consider is storage space. Not all single stage machines are a like. The cheaper single stage machines are commonly much smaller. Which brings us to the 3rd thing to consider. How much snow will you be pushing. For areas that don't receive more than 4" per storm a smaller single stage unit will do just fine. If you're in an area that receives the occasional 6" to 8" storm you may be better off with a bigger single stage unit. If you're in an area like I am that gets an occasional 12" to 16" of snow storm annually you may want to consider a 2 stage setup. The more amount of stages the better off you'll be with heavier denser materials. You'll also want to consider amenities like self propelled systems. Many systems are push systems and self propelled systems are very convenient when the snow pack gets dense. Really appreciate you watching.
