Corita was a visual artist, but she was also an amazing teacher who developed an inventive pedagogy that trained students to look at the world in new and different ways. We have asked artists around the country to make videos from inside their homes, sharing how Corita's teachings on looking, sources, structure, connect + create, work + play, and celebration, have played a role in their own creative practice. Doug Peck is a music director and vocal coach based in Los Angeles. He has appeared in concert with artists such as Renée Fleming, Michelle Williams, Lupe Fiasco, Jessie Mueller, Shemekia Copeland, John Prine and many others. He is the recipient of six Joseph Jefferson Awards for musical director, as well as two After Dark Awards, the Guy Adkins Award, and the Sarah Siddons Award. The ideas discussed in this video series are adapted from Corita Kent and Jan Steward's book, "Learning by Heart: Teaching to Free the Creative Spirit."
