Their new video ‘I Paint With The Brush Of Violence’ is an ode to the black macintosh-wearing killers of Dario Argento lore, with singer Carla Lippis intoning in threateningly-subtitled Italian over an infernal backdrop of shredding no-wave guitars and pounding punk drums. Filmed in an empty soundstage which was once the South Australian Film Corporation’s main lot, she struts menacingly in tall stilettos, blade in hand. Trigger-Warning: this video piece does not shirk from depicting the savagery of the modern media-scape, nor does it shy away from strobe lighting and stark imagery, as the disclaimer suggests. There is however, humour to be found in Lippis’ performance, with much gurning and grimacing atop various outfits including an extravagantly-sized Elizabethan ruff. Thematically, the song treads similar territory to the other songs from Mondo Psycho’s debut album: vengeance, psychosis, existential-dread and feminine domination - "last woman standing / gets all the glory / gets the money / gets the power." Mondo Psycho are a gritty antidote to the blandness of modern content, and depict a world that chaotically and abruptly shifts in tone from corruption and violence to ecstatic truth.
