August 22, 2009 - Video 2 of 3 (separate postings) From Festival of Dancing Colors which was presented by the Inland Empire Chapter of MECDA. Video by Arnie's Productions. Appearances by Whittier's dance troupe, The Fatimas and Hajir. Ronda's Journey in this World, and the Light She Generated Featuring dancers Ronda, Paula, Lessette & Linda. I am so proud of the work Ronda and this troupe put into learning their dances, embracing the culture and cultivating size acceptance and love for oneself. For decades I saw lives impacted through Ronda's MOR2LUV social group, NAAFA connections, SAFE group and of course through The Fatimas. Ronda and others were flown to various talk shows across the country to provide perspectives on how we can ALL enjoy life and movement, regardless of size. Over my lifetime I have witnessed such negative bias against folks who are large, before anyone even gets to know the person. It's an awful way to live. Through Ronda's efforts with her close friends, they found ways to love themselves and encourage others to do the same. When people make an effort to shut down others just for presenting differently than society defines as "just right," it causes them to lose out on knowing incredible humans and sharing wonderful talent and experiences. When people suggest that they are "just worried for their health," that's just a screen to hide their judgement. I have seen skinny people who suffer and die young, and I've seen the fat community through Ronda's efforts live HAPPY and PRODUCTIVE, and JOY-FILLED lives, loving and being loved. These videos are evidence that movement and joy are for every human. I will always cherish how Aunt Ronda brought light wherever she went, whether teaching bilingually at Suva Elementary for over three decades, sharing her love of crafts and music with her family and friends, creating safe and loving spaces for every person in her world. I challenge everyone to be as impactful in their own lives as Ronda was in hers. I only hope she knew right into her last moments how loved she truly is. Thanks for reading this far. Enjoy!
