Menstruation Hygiene Kits - The pads

A brief discussion about the reusable menstruation pads We Sew Love makes for the mission field. The design was developed with the help from women in a couple Facebook Groups dedicated to the making and using of reusable menstruation pads. We then did some “user testing” work women and teens in Africa. Layers: LAYER 1 - will be worn next to the body (skin) and is the wicking layer, we use flannel and sometimes 100% cotton T-shirt knit LAYER 2 - the middle layer is for absorbency, we use donated towels LAYER 3 - is worn next to the panty and is a barrier layer, we use fleece. Our process is to cut all fabrics into 2.5” strips using a rotary cutting system. The strips are then given to teams of non-sewing volunteers who use sharp scissors to cut the strips into 8” sections. Boxes labeled LAYER 1, LAYER 2, LAYER 3 so volunteer teams who may or may not know anything about sewing will be able to successfully assemble the pads for the sewing teams. After the sewing is done we have volunteer teams trim the pads (the layers will short about when the sewing is being done…we want them to look nice) and use line brushes to clean away all the clutter from the terry toweling.
