2019-09-09 | Walking with Hanshan: The Poetry of Cold Mountain Class 1 | Flint Sparks

In "Walking with Hanshan: The Poetry of Cold Mountain," we engage the poetry of the Hermit Hanshan, or Cold Mountain, using the wonderful new translation of Hanshan’s poetry offered to us by Kaz Tanahashi and Peter Levitt in their volume The Complete Cold Mountain: Poems of the Legendary Hermit Hanshan (Shambhala. 2018). This is not an academic study of the poet or the poems, but instead is an invitation to become intimate with the poems as expressions of our shared practice path and as guideposts along the way as we walk together. Peter Levitt writes in the introduction:  “My sense is that all people long for a true companion as we move through the switchback twists and turns of our given lives, climbing the literal and figurative mountains we come upon or descending into some of life’s more treacherous or mysterious valleys."
